It does not matter the size of your company, whether it is large or a local business with 10 people: YOU NEED A WEBSITE .
We live in an age where having a web presence is very important. Whether you have a successful company, a home based business, sell product or services online, you are an organization or you just have a new project that you are validating. You will not be relevant if you do not have an online presence.
If you are a small startup, it is more real. People will not listen to you in street advertisements, in TV commercials and the most certain thing is that you will not be able to sell by word of mouth, that is why you need a website.
A web page is a necessary tool, even if you don’t sell anything online, it is an extension of who you are; a medium in which you can explain what you do, where people can contact you and where your brand lives.
In this article, I’ll walk you through the steps you need to create a functional page for your business. Doing it before hadn’t been so easy.
Creating a web page.
Most people today do a search online before buying anything. They usually find information about the business, review product and service reviews, compare different companies to find the best deal. In a matter of minutes, a client has the possibility to find what they need, to know to decide whether to buy or not, so you need to have the information available when creating your website.
1. Decide on the purpose of your website.
Even though it seems trivial, it is something you should consider. You are trying to sell products, it will be a portfolio of your projects and give contact information to your potential clients. You are going to write a blog .
When you decide the purpose, it is easier to create your website by concentrating on it. Always keep in mind that none of these decisions should be permanent, you can always make changes when you want to take a different course. But, in order to get started, you need to set a primary goal.
2. Select the Hosting for your web page.
For your website to work you must have where to place the information. Basically they are computers connected all the time to the Internet. I put this step before buying the domain because many times when hiring a Hosting plan they give you the domain.
There are companies that give you Hosting, but I do not recommend it if you want to show professionalism to your potential clients.
In the free options, you have to know that you can open an account at WordPress.com and your address would be: wpveloz.wordpress.com instead of WP Veloz.com
3. Buy a domain.
Think of this step as registering your business name, your website.
The best option is to select a domain that is the name of your business, this may be a fact, but there are people who do not consider it. In my case the name of my business is WP Veloz and my domain is too, this way it will be easier to find my website
You pay the domains annually, which will seem like a big investment, but it really is not, a domain costs $ 15 USD per year if it is from a country it may cost $ 50 USD.
GoDaddy is one of the best places to buy your domain, but you can find it elsewhere.
4. Build your website.
The process of creating web pages is more than the home page, it must have several pages (About us, blog, Services, Contact, etc …) In each of them you must show what people should know about your business.
There are several themes, some of them are free and others you have to pay. You can start with a free theme, but I recommend using a theme called X Theme that costs 64 USD. So you can customize your page in a simple way and it will be fast. That is the theme that we use to create pages in a single day.
5. Test your website.
Testing your website on all elements is something that many people skip. Look for it to be working for all platforms, it also uses tools to validate errors.
Common mistakes when building a web page.
The website can be viewed however you want and that is a good thing. The bad thing? .. Is that having so much possibility of creativity you can create in some mistakes. These are the ones we have most commonly seen.
1. Do not make the search field visible.
Your website must be user-friendly. We all know that we can spend hours looking for something on a web page, and many times we cannot find it. Putting the search field in a visible place for users helps you reduce this time.
2. Don’t categorize content.
Even worse is creating a website with content on different topics, from animal topics to cell phone tips. If you can categorize the topics, your visitors will thank you.
3. Inconsistent design.
If on your main page the predominant color is blue, do not make the contact page color purple, your design must be consistent. No matter which page they visit, the user must feel that they are part of the same page.
4. Background music.
There is nothing more unpleasant. Unless you are a DJ or musician, don’t play background music. Although it seems like a good thing, most of us do not like to listen to something forced, if they want to listen to music or videos they will go to YouTube.
5. A “welcome” page.
Nobody is going to visit more pages than necessary. You can thank them by simply giving them everything they are looking for on the first page.
6. A lot of Flash.
Flash can make pages come to life, but it’s a problem. Not all browsers will display Flash, and it will not be an easy page for Google to find.
